Francoise BARRAUD - Biography

de Francoise Barraud

Born in Paris in 1950, Françoise Barraud lived in Algeria until the age of 5. She then returned to France where she studied in theatre, art and architecture in Bordeaux,  before moving to Quebec in 1978. Even as a child, she was constantly drawing and making collages.  Today she works with different media, such as painting, drawing, etching, silkscreen and mosaic. She has organised many exhibitions for the Mile End Cultural Center and has worked on both documentaries and animation films for the ONF.

Barraud is truly a magician when using paper. She constructs her collages mostly with died or painted paper which she layers and juxtaposes in order to create worlds of her own. In these worlds the she hopes to depict both the ephemeral and eternal nature of beauty. The viewer may lose or find himself in the imaginary landscapes, the architectural labyrinths or colourful abstract mosaics.
