Mireille MORENCY-LAY - Biography

- from Mireille Morency-Lay
« I don't really have any preconceived ideas when I work, but I have developed a vocabulary of shapes and lines that run throughout my work. I also have a strong interest in color. It is the relationship between those elements within the picture plane that interests me. Colors, lines and shapes all have the same importance to me and cannot be taken separately. It is the harmony and tension between those elements that make the image work.
I have always been a jazz fan and often work while listening to jazz. More and more I see a similarity between that music and the way I work. What I try to achieve is a mixture of structure and spontaneity and of the cerebral and the emotional. To me, the best jazz and the best art combine those elements. »
